Are You Doing Too Much? The Joyful Art of Being a Yoga Sloth

Find your inner Sloth 🫶

The Unofficial London Motto

If London life had a theme song, it would probably have a techno beat. We ( Leela and Victoria ) are very proud of our jet setter life styles and love what we do. Running multiple jobs at the same time, chasing our dream.

We're proud of our productivity, our overflowing calendars, and our ability to juggle a million things at once. But somewhere between replying to emails on the tube and trying to catch your breath after sprinting to the bus, a little part of you just wants to quit and nap under a blanket.

Good news: That feeling is actually a sign of wisdom! At The Yoga Sloth we believe that embracing your inner sloth is the key to living better. It's not about being lazy; it's about being intentional. - with your time and your energy.

The Three Signs You Need a Sloth Intervention

We all hit that wall. Here are three quick clues that your nervous system is waving a tiny white flag, and it's time to slow down:

  1. The "Just Five More Minutes" Syndrome: When you hit snooze five times or you’re struggling to leave the house, you're not actually tired—you're depleted. Your body is demanding rest it didn't get last night or your mind is avoiding having to dive into the next challenge. Pushing through this only leads to caffeine or sugar crashes and a feeling in a slump.

  2. The Fidget and Forget: You're sitting still, but your mind is racing, your foot is tapping, and you can't remember why you walked into the kitchen. That scattered feeling is your brain struggling with information overload.

  3. The Weekend Crash: You spend all week revving your engine, only to collapse on the sofa on Saturday, too exhausted to do anything fun. You've sacrificed joy for productivity.

A Sloth’s Guide to Reclaiming Your Day (No Nap Required)

This is the fun, actionable part that connects back to your mindful movement philosophy without sounding like a class schedule.

  • Move Like Honey (On Purpose): In a hurry? Try moving slower. When you’re walking home from the tube station, try a slow, deliberate pace. When you move slowly, your mind has to pay attention to your body. That simple act of presence is the opposite of stress. (This is exactly what we practice in our All Levels Yoga classes!)

  • The 5-Minute Do-Nothing: Set a timer for five minutes. Put your phone away. Don't scroll, don't plan, don't tidy. Just sit and watch the kettle boil, or stare out the window. This tiny, deliberate break gives your pre-frontal cortex a rest and actually boosts focus later.

  • Embrace the Bolster: Ever tried a restorative pose with a cushion or bolster? Supporting your body completely in a pose like a supported backbend or a simple elevated legs-up-the-wall allows your nervous system to switch from "do" to "be." This profound rest is the most effective stress relief there is. (You can find deep rest in our Slow Sloth Friday class!)

  • Breathe Like You Mean It: You breathe all day, but rarely mindfully. Try extending your exhale—inhale for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 6. This simple trick tells your brain, "I'm safe, I can relax."
